Juris Technology LLC, doing business as Jurisio ("Jurisio," "we," "us," or "our"), provides this notice under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, and its regulations (together, the "CCPA"). Words such as "personal information," "sell," "share," and "sensitive personal information" have the meanings the CCPA gives them.
1. Who This Notice Covers
This notice applies to California residents who use the Jurisio website or the Jurisio service, including as a guest. Information in a firm workspace is handled under the organization's written agreement with Jurisio; if your organization controls a record, please contact your organization first, and we will assist it as our agreement and the law require.
2. Information We Collect and Where It Comes From
In the past 12 months we have collected the following categories of personal information. Section 2 of the Privacy Policy describes each one in more detail.
- Identifiers, such as your name, email address, account and guest identifiers, and IP address. Sources: you; your browser or device; and a sign-in service, such as Google, if you choose to sign in with it.
- Customer and commercial records, such as your organization details, your plan, and subscription and payment records. We do not receive or store your full card number; our payment processor handles it. Sources: you and our payment processor.
- Internet and device activity, such as usage events, request records, error and security logs, and browser and device information. Sources: your browser or device, automatically when you use the website or service.
- Location. Approximate location, such as a state, county, city, or region that you give us or that we infer from your activity or connection. If you choose to share your device's location, your browser sends us its coordinates once so we can look up your state or county; we do not store the coordinates. Sources: you, your browser or device, and our own inferences.
- Content, such as your questions, messages, notes, and uploaded or imported files, and the answers and documents Jurisio generates for you. Content may include personal information about you or about other people, including sensitive information. Sources: you, and services you choose to connect, such as cloud storage, a calendar, or Microsoft Word.
- Inferences, such as your likely home state and general categories of your requests. We do not attempt to infer sensitive characteristics about you. Sources: our own analysis of your activity.
3. Why We Use It
We use each category of personal information for these business purposes: to provide the features you ask for and save your work; to create and secure your account and sign you in; to process payments and manage subscriptions; to provide support; to keep the service secure and reliable and to detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents; to find and fix errors; to understand how our website and service are used so we can improve them; to communicate with you about your account and, where allowed, about Jurisio; and to comply with law. We do not use your content to train AI models (Privacy Policy, Section 3).
4. Who Receives It
In the past 12 months we have disclosed personal information for business purposes to the following categories of recipients. Each receives only the categories it needs for its function.
- Hosting, storage, and email delivery providers: all categories.
- AI model and verification providers: content, inferences, and approximate location that a request uses, and, for guest use, a pseudonymous session identifier.
- Web search, legal research, and privacy-check providers: search queries and page addresses derived from your requests.
- Payment processor: identifiers and customer and commercial records.
- Analytics provider: internet and device activity, approximate location, inferences, and IP address, not linked to your name, email address, or account.
- A government location-lookup service: your device's coordinates, only when you choose to share your device's location.
- Services you choose to connect, such as cloud storage or a calendar: the information needed to do what you ask, such as the dates you ask us to add to your calendar.
We may also disclose personal information when the law requires it, such as in response to valid legal process, and to a successor if Jurisio is merged or sold (Privacy Policy, Section 9).
Our service providers page lists the providers we use, what each one does, and where it processes information.
5. How Long We Keep It
We keep each category only as long as needed for the purposes in Section 3, using the periods and criteria in Section 7 of the Privacy Policy. In summary:
- Identifiers, customer records, and inferences: while your account is open, then deleted within a reasonable period after you ask us to delete your account, except records we must keep longer, such as billing records for tax and accounting.
- Content: saved content until you delete it or your account is closed. Records of AI requests and responses are kept for up to 180 days. Guest content is deleted automatically starting 30 days after the guest session began, unless you create an account from it.
- Internet and device activity: operational and security records for the periods in Section 7 of the Privacy Policy, and longer where needed for security or legal purposes. Analytics events are not linked to your account and are kept under our analytics provider's retention settings.
- Location: a home state you set or that we infer is kept with your account settings, and you can change or clear it. Device coordinates are not stored.
Backup copies expire on their normal schedule.
6. No Sale or Sharing
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We have not done either in the past 12 months. We do not sell or share the personal information of anyone, including consumers under 16 years of age. We do not use personal information for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you.
7. Sensitive Personal Information
Some information we handle is sensitive personal information under the CCPA: your account login credentials; your device's coordinates, for the moment it takes to look up your location when you choose to share it; and any sensitive information, such as health, immigration, criminal history, financial, or government identification information, that appears in content you submit.
We use and disclose sensitive personal information only to provide the service you request and for other purposes the CCPA permits, such as security, preventing fraud, and complying with law. We do not use it to infer characteristics about you. Because we do not use it for any other purpose, the right to limit its use does not apply, so we do not offer a separate way to limit it.
8. Your Rights
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know and access: ask what personal information we have collected about you, the categories of its sources, why we collected it, the categories of recipients we disclosed it to, and a copy of the specific pieces of personal information we hold about you.
- Delete: ask us to delete personal information we collected from you, subject to exceptions the law allows.
- Correct: ask us to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of sale or sharing: because we do not sell or share personal information, there is nothing to opt out of today. If that ever changes, we will give you a way to opt out before it begins.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information: this right does not apply, because we use it only for permitted purposes (Section 7).
- No retaliation: we will not deny you service, charge you a different price, give you a different level or quality of service, or otherwise discriminate or retaliate against you for using these rights.
9. Making a Request
How to ask. Email support@jurisio.ai from the email address on your account, with "Privacy request" in the subject line, and say which right you want to use. You can also delete individual conversations and documents yourself in the product at any time.
Verification. To protect your information, we verify each request, usually by confirming that you control the email address on the account. For a copy of specific pieces of information or for deletion, we may ask for more information to confirm your identity. If we cannot verify a request, we will tell you why. Guest sessions are not tied to a verified identity, so we may not be able to act on a request about guest activity; guest data is deleted automatically as described in Section 5.
Timing. We will confirm that we received your request within 10 business days and respond within 45 calendar days. If we need more time, we may extend that period once by up to 45 more days and will tell you why.
Authorized agents. Someone you authorize may make a request for you. Unless the agent has a valid power of attorney, we may ask for your signed permission and ask you to confirm your identity with us directly.
If we decline. We will explain why. You may ask us to reconsider by replying to our decision or by emailing support@jurisio.ai with "Privacy appeal" in the subject line.
10. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of the sale and sharing of personal information for that browser. While the signal is on, we also do not load our analytics tool on our website or in the Jurisio app. Because we do not sell or share personal information, the signal does not change anything else.
Some browsers also send a "Do Not Track" signal. Because there is no common standard for it, we do not otherwise respond to Do Not Track signals. Our Cookie Policy explains the cookies and similar technologies we use.
11. Direct Marketing (Shine the Light)
California Civil Code Section 1798.83 lets California residents ask about personal information a business disclosed to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.
12. Notice of Financial Incentive
When you create an account from a guest session, the usage you already used as a guest that month does not count against your new account's monthly usage allowance, for the rest of that calendar month (UTC). We offer this in exchange for the email address you give us to create the account. We estimate the value of that information as equal to the value of this refill, which is our cost for the guest usage we stop counting and depends on how much you used. You opt in by creating an account, and you can withdraw at any time by asking us to delete your account (Section 9).
13. Changes and Contact
We review this notice at least once a year and update it when our practices change. The "Last updated" date shows the most recent revision.
